Hayoung Eum 《The Lingering Grace》: At the Intersection of Daily Life and Imagination
2GIL29 GALLERY is pleased to present 《The Lingering Grace》, a solo exhibition by artist Hayoung Eum, running from January 18 to February 28, 2025. This exhibition showcases the artist’s deep exploration of seemingly ordinary moments in daily life, reinterpreted through his unique perspective into new and imaginative works. Hayoung Eum’s art blurs the line between reality and fantasy, beautifully visualizing the subtle ironies of life and the complexities of human emotion.Rediscovering the Everyday in the Artist’s Philosophy
Hayoung Eum draws inspiration from the repetitive and mundane routines of daily life, transforming them into a wellspring of artistic creativity. By combining personal experiences with media-driven imagery, the artist creates works where even a simple word like "family trip" evolves into a surreal, magazine-like vision. Through this approach, Eum discovers the extraordinary spark of imagination embedded within reality.
This perspective stems from his ability to view ordinary life through a fresh lens. Rather than seeing a lack of imagination, Eum embraces the gift of an overabundance of it, using his artistic journey to share this perspective. The monotony of moving between home and studio provided Eum with moments of contemplation and reverie, which became the foundation for his attempts to dissolve the boundaries between reality and fantasy in his works.
The Deeper Meaning Behind 《The Lingering Grace》
The exhibition title, 《The Lingering Grace》, illuminates moments where opposing sensations coexist. Eum discovers elegance in absurd and irrational situations and explores hidden tranquility and calm within extravagance and exaggeration. The exhibition examines the ironies of life, encapsulating the constant shifts and changes in human emotions.
